Newborns are kind of a pain. Yes, they're cute and you love them and all, but gah -- a girl's gotta eat/brush her teeth/hit the gym at some point, right?
That last one was particularly tough for new mom Michelle Vellacott, 39. "It was hard to fit a class in around [the baby's] schedule and you just don't want to be away from them when they are that little, and they don't want to leave your side," she told the
Daily Mail.
"So I had a search on the internet and there really wasn't much out there except a bit of lifting your baby up and down during yoga, so I came up with BabaBoogie," she says.
Cheesy name and cringe-inducing wardrobe aside, the exercise DVD (
available here) makes a lot of sense for new moms. All the moves are designed to be done with your baby strapped to your chest and it also includes fun music and cartoons on the screen to help entertain the little one while you move.
There are two workouts, one for moms with six-week-old babies and the other for when they get a little older that's more intense.
The best part about exercising with your baby, according to Vellacott: "Instead of having to squeeze in exercise when they are having a nap, you can have them with you and then enjoy a cup of tea or a nap when they drift off." Sounds good to us.
