Emojis -- those colorful, detailed emoticons that are beyond fun to go crazy with in texts and on social media -- are the perfect blend of beauty and self-expression. What better way to send a "Happy Birthday!" message to your bestie than a bunch of cute images of red balloons, birthday cake, smiling princesses, hearts in every color, multiple martini glasses, and a shooting star?
The primitive appeal of Emojis must be something similar to the Egyptians using pictographs as writing. Just like those old pharaohs, we're using symbols that are universally understood -- and ours don't even need a Rosetta stone for translation. Or maybe I'm getting too meta. Maybe the reason we all love Emojis so damn much is because they're straight-up
awesome.
That's why this editorial spread from V Magazine featuring emojis on real-live people made us smile. Peter Philips' whimsical images -- including pandas painted on fingertips, googly eyes on top of eyes, a giant crystal crab claw (?), and jewels
everywhere -- totally brightened our day. Thanks,
NY Mag.
