Feeling woefully gaunt? Looking to recapture your inner (outer) cherub? This news just might make your day.
"JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, [is] the first and only filler approved to temporarily correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area."
Here's the deal. Allergan (the folks who've brought us Botox and a host of other fountains of youth) conducted a "pivotal clinical trial" to assess the safety and effectiveness of Juvéderm as a non-surgical option for folks (women) who want to re-plump their faces.
The results?
"Juvéderm VOLUMA XC was an effective treatment compared to the control group, which did not receive treatment."
Dr. Derek H. Jones explains: "As people age, the cheek area can lose volume, causing the cheeks to flatten out and the skin to droop and sag. In the Juvéderm Voluma XC clinical trial, physicians and patients were able to see instant and visible results, including correction of age-related volume loss in the cheek area and a more youthful appearance to the face."
But, what makes this particular approval "news"?
We spoke to Dr. Annie Chiu who clarified things for us non-pros. "Juvederm has three subtypes. Juvederm XC Ultra, and Juvederm XC Ultra Plus have been around forever and are commonly used in the smile lines and lips. This "new" Juvederm Voluma is a thicker consistency hyaluronic acid product for global volumnization and lifting of the mid and lateral cheeks. It is purported to boost cheek lift and overall facial volume, lasting up to 1.5-2 years."
So, if you've been longing to recapture your plump cheeks of yesteryear, derive some solace in the fact that the government has granted you permission. Now, if only it were subsidized...
