"Sexy Hairstyles for Date Night," "Makeup Looks Men Love," "Dresses That'll Drive Him Wild." You see these stories in magazines all the time -- heck,
we've even written a few.
But if
this new study of 2,000 women (by Malibu Rum, so take it with a grain of salt) is true, then these stories are completely missing the mark.
On average, women spend 40 minutes getting ready for a date, but more than an hour getting ready for a night out with friends.
Part of the reason: Two thirds of the women said they want to "wow" their friends with their look and also admitted to comparing their appearance to their pals. On the flip side, 50 percent of women said they have to rush to get ready for a date night, since their boyfriend or husband gets ready so much more quickly (
unless he's one of these dudes).
You might say "no way" at first, but think about it: I know I'm way more likely to break out the hot pink lipstick for happy hour with friends than I am for dinner with my husband. My friends will notice/compliment the look while he either won't notice at all or ask why I've got all that "stuff" on my lips. Sigh.
This isn't the only reason a girls' night out primp session lasts so much longer though. About 44 percent of the women surveyed also admitted they like getting ready to go out with friends just as much as the night out itself. Totally makes sense. If you've got music blasting and fresh cocktails next to your makeup bags, it wouldn't be hard to spend hours getting ready.
