Nicole Richie's initial claim to fame may have been her critically acclaimed appearance on "The Simple Life," but the crown braid the star wore to host an event over the weekend is decidedly anything but simple -- that is, provided your actual hair goes into creating it. Happily, Nicole's choice in accessory seems to be a hairpiece worn over her sleek, pulled-back chignon, which is a much easier means by which to get this fancy twisted take on the classic boho braid.

We certainly applaud Nicole for shaking up a standard hair trend. That said, our feelings are divided on this particular version -- we declared it totally cute upon first glance, but after further inspection it's seriously calling to mind the type of trim you might find on a decorative throw pillow. It's not the worst look you could possibly sport -- after all, there's nothing like a good throw for a bit of interior flair -- but we just aren't sure if your head is the right place to put it.
