We can't say for sure if Pantone's annual declaration of "Color of the Year" is just a novelty, or whether it has any actual influence on the decision-making of the minds behind our favorite fashion and beauty brands. Even if it seems a tiny bit arbitrary -- a designated color company choosing a color of the year, isn't that quaint? -- we're the first to admit that we're all eyes and ears when they make their announcement each season.

And who takes the prize this year but Radiant Orchid? A blend of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones, it's not exactly the most universally wearable Color of the Year (shout out to 2013's Emerald!), but it is flashy, fun, and pretty stunning on all skin tones as a lipstick shade. We don't know exactly how we'll go about integrating it into our wardrobes in the current year, but we wouldn't be amiss in suggesting that we might be able to take more than a few cues from one Nicki Minaj.
