Last July 31, I wrote about tampon delivery service, Hello Flo's, first foray into advertising.
This was no small feat. I was so genuinely amused that formulating coherent thoughts and getting them onto "paper" was a challenge. (Note: I do
not amuse easily.)
The geniuses at Hello Flo (and/or their ad agency) had managed to do the near unthinkable: create an inspired tampon ad.
"No slow-mo cheesiness with babes in white bikinis frolicking in the surf or flowy-dress wearing hippy chicks riding bareback through a field," I managed to articulate at the time. And, it was true.
Hello Flo had had somehow conceived a fresh, entertaining and engaging angle with which to tackle an unglamorous, un-fun topic: menstruation. And, by nailing the casting effort, writing clever, witty copy and going where no "feminine care" commercial had ever gone before, as fast as you could say "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret"
they had a new customer in me and thousands of others insta-fans.

Now, all you have to do is look at Alanis Morissette to know that sophomore efforts rarely live up to, much less surpass, initial efforts, but this, the second ad from Hello Flo, may very well be even funnier and better crafted than the first -- if that's even possible.
With bona fide LOL one-liners ("Do you know how hard it is to find a uterus piñata?") galore, sublime casting (the main protagonist out Lindsay Lohans "Freaky Friday" Lindsay Lohan and the mom could add some much-needed spunk to "SNL's" current anemic lineup) and an even more brilliant concept, this commercial is sure to slow down YouTube's load time to a snail's pace.
Again, like last year, I don't want to detract from your viewing experience by waxing periodic (?) beforehand so I'll just stick my hands in my pockets and let you kick your Thursday off with a big smile on your face and a giggle in your gut.
