"There is no cure for aging, because aging isn't an illness," a new Public Service Announcement from the British non-profit, Age UK, reminds us.
And, if you sit with that line, if you really think about it and let the concept sink in, you, like I, may just realize that you've kind of been going about this whole getting old thing backasswards.
After all, trite (or ready to be embroidered on a pillow) as it might sound, old age is a privilege, not a right. Yet we, especially in America, are ridiculously guilty of panicking over the mere concept of aging and of doing everything we can to stave off the signs of it.
We inject poisons into our faces, have fat sucked from our nether regions, hair grafted from heaven knows where -- all to try and beat, rather than embrace, the clock.
Now, I'm not suggesting that we throw in the beauty towel and let ourselves go all Crypt Keeper, but we do need to be reminded that living life is about much more than chasing the perfect, youthful complexion.
So have a look at this wonderfully done series of "Love Later Life" videos, and afterwards let me know if you don't feel at least a little different about what (hopefully) awaits you.
