Can you believe it? After eight years of existence (and over 30 million palettes sold), Urban Decay is officially laying its iconic Naked Palette to rest.
The news comes as something of a shock — after all, the neutral palette is still a daily staple for many, what with its buttery blend of finely-milled mattes, shimmers and metallics.
Never fear, though: Urban Decay has given its billion-dollar golden goose the send off it deserves. The brand threw a funeral for the palette, attended by beauty influencers Kandee Johnson, Christen Dominique, Katy DeGroot, Shayla Mitchell and Chrisspy, with a touching eulogy by none other than brand ambassador Nicole Richie.
It was a dramatic, Pretty Little Liars-esque affair, to be sure, replete with claps of thunder, black veils, a soaring score of strings and several coats of dramatic waterproof mascara (all accompanied with a hefty dose of double entendres, of course).
And as a silver lining to this very dark cloud, the palette is currently marked down to a very-affordable $27. "Saying goodbye to NAKED is extremely bittersweet," said founder Wende Zomnir in a statement from the brand. "It was a big moment in our history. It's a little painful to leave your past behind, but it's also essential to always evolve. I will forever miss NAKED, but we plan to turn the grief into even more greatness. Urban Decay will continue to thrive in NAKED's memory and honor — just wait and see."
It's tough not to read a little into Zomnir's statement... How, exactly, do you think Urban Decay will choose to "turn the grief into even more greatness"? Can we expect a new and improved Naked Palette rise from the ashes like a phoenix? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
