Dip-dye the tips If you like ombré highlights, you'll love the dip-dyed look -- where the neon color gradually becomes darker at the ends. One great thing about coloring just the tips of your hair is that if you really regret it, you can always have the bottom inches cut off. Plus, it's easy to hide: If you work in a more conservative environment you can always wrap your hair in a bun and tuck the ends underneath. "I like to do hot colors on clients' tips," says Huson. "It keeps the overall look more natural but with a fun pop to it."

Great article! Yes, this option is really for the adventurous woman. But as a young-at-heart, happy and confident woman, I would love and feel very comfortable with a few strands of a pretty violet color ( not necessarily neon) tucked into my long black hair. At 41, I'm still rockin' my Adidas Gazelles and will NEVER apologize for it. It's all about personal style and expression. I may just take the plunge after reading this!

I like the bright colors. I have done pink, purple, fire red. I just turned 30. I still find it fun. But I\'m also a hairstylist so it\'s easy to switch styles to keep things edgy.

Something subtle perhaps, such as highlights or lowlights ... but neon? Not past 20 something. Otherwise it looks unrefined. Like you're trying too hard.
