Hair Do: A cut that styles itself A simple cut with a few layers is almost fool-proof. It requires very little styling -- just a quick blow dry and maybe a curling or flat iron if you want to look extra polished.

But the real lesson here is to get a haircut that works with your hair texture and lifestyle. It's crucial to talk with your stylist about your styling abilities before he starts to cut so you can help him determine what type of style will be ideal for your hair. A good stylist should give you a realistic idea of the amount of effort a particular cut will require. That way, you'll have a fighting chance at looking (almost) as good as you do when you walk out of the salon when you style your own hair.

When I was a little girl I wore my hair in a pony tail every single day - it was so long it would give me headaches. When I'd finally had enough of those (and some were just awful!) I decided to get it cut to something that was more fashionable AND shorter, LOTS shorter. Even though it ended up being shoulder lenght I just loved it. But my hair was also very very thick! Mom finally took me to her hairstylist who layered my hair and I just loved it! Yes, it was a bit unnerving taking that LARGE jump, but once I did I said the same thing that another girl wrote, "I'll NEVER let my hair grow long again!!" although I did later down the road. It took some getting used to, but using about 1/2 the product/s from before it was cut, and cutting the drying time from about 45 mins. down to just 15 mins. or so - I LOVED IT!! It was quite a decision for a 4th grader LOL The tips in this article were great! Thanks for sharing them ;)
