What's the Best Lip Color for You?
Find out which shade will perfectly complement your skin tone -- then make it your go-to hue
Lip color is really more of an accessory than a makeup product. It's also a mood evoker -- if you're feeling sultry, you can wear gloss to draw attention to your mouth, or if you're feeling tired after a long day you can grab a bold lip color for a pick-me-up before heading out on the town. But do you know which shade complements your skin tone and should be your go-to lip color? We chatted with makeup artists Laura Geller, mastermind behind her innovative eponymous makeup line, and Anna Marco, part of the team at the newly opened Makeup&GO!
studio in Brentwood, Calif. to find out.
The quiz results might not come as a big shocker to you (although we do have some great lip makeup recommendations for you), but on the other hand, you just might discover something new and take a leap of lip-color faith that'll be somewhat of a mini makeover for you.
But keep in mind, since there's not a science to picking out lip color per se, you shouldn't feel pigeon holed by the recommendations because if you try on a color that you think looks good, then you should wear it.
Once you find your new go-to hue, here are a few tips to help extend the wear of your lip color:
• Line and fill in lips with a pencil that matches your natural lip color. The liner will act as a base color to hold your lipsticks and glosses in place longer. Plus, you'll avoid that unsightly ring around your mouth as the lip color inevitably fades.
• To prevent the lip color from bleeding and to extend the wear of your lipstick, try a lip stain. It provides a great base prior to applying your lipsticks, and also works well under lip gloss.
• Keep lips moisturized at night with lip balm to prevent dry lips so that your lip color will adhere to lips better.
