'I Tried Botox for the First Time at 29 -- Here's What It Was Like'This is what went down when I went under the needle |
Aside from the typical teen acne, I've luckily never dealt with any major skin issues. I have good genes (thanks, Mom!) and my career as a beauty editor to thank for that. I've been able to try the latest and greatest skin-care products, plus pick the brains of top dermatologists (#werkperks).
Ever since I turned 29 a few months ago, though, I've started stressing over the fact that wrinkles could be just around the corner. During my years in the beauty industry, I've learned that lines often appear in women's early 30s -- and sometimes even sooner than that.
While it makes me happy that the beauty industry is moving away from being so obsessed with age (Allure banned the term "anti-aging" over the summer and CoverGirl appointed 69-year-old Maye Musk as their latest spokesperson), I'm sure I'm not the only woman who still feels pressure to look young. Maybe it's because it's been ingrained in me for so long that youth = beautiful. Whatever the case, I often find myself at the mirror searching for wrinkles or new gray hairs.
So in an effort to fight the man (the man being time), I recently decided to have a little work done. No, I didn't go under the knife -- I went under the needle. Yep, I got Botox -- and I lived to tell the tale.
