Look into the Light Whatever your source of light, position your vanity so that your face is directly in front of the light. Light that hits your face from the side or overhead can cast shadows and ruin makeup depth and placement, says Farooq. She recommends using a shade over your bulb, especially if you're planning on being filmed or photographed, since "too much lighting can throw off the white balance."
