Pass on Powder Contrary to popular belief, it's not a staple for all makeup artists. "I'm not a big fan of powder, particularly on my middle-aged skin, so I tend not to use it if I don't have to," says beauty expert and makeup artist Jenny Patinkin, author of Lazy Perfection: The Art of Looking Good Without Really Trying. "Instead, I use a light sweep of bronzer in all the same places powder would go. I figure they're made from basically the same ingredients -- so they'll both set and hold product in place -- it's just that bronzer has pigment and a smaller amount of dusty particles."
