Beauty Legend, Naomi Sims, Leaves Us
- Posted by Anna on August 5, 2009 at 04:00PM
The first African-American model to grace the cover of mainstream women's magazines in 1968, Naomi Sims, has died of cancer at the age of 64. Naomi, on the covers of Ladies Home Journal, Life, Cosmopolitan and Essence magazines, showed the world that beauty is found in all colors thus changing the ideals of American beauty.
Sims went on to create her own line of wigs, cosmetics and fragrances as well as pen a book titled "All About Health and Beauty for the Black Woman" in 1986.
Farewell to a total beauty!

When she first started appearing in Glamour magazine and on occasion, I would see her in Seventeen (I think) as well as Cosmo and others. She was truly beautiful and will be missed.
