  • Hair Powder Warning!

  • Dry, itchy scalp can be caused by a myriad of things, but I've noticed that the latest hair powder I've been using, Stila Jade Blossom Hair Refresher, may be a culprit. While it smells amazing, it tends to leave me with dry scalp after repeated use. (I use it about two or three times a week.) If you have this problem, I've discovered some solutions:

  • Pureology's new ZeroSulfate DandruffScalpCure Shampoo and DandruffScalpCure Hair Conditioner

  • If your hair is color-treated like mine, this will likely quell the urge to scratch your scalp with just a few uses -- without sacrificing the quality of your hair color. (Cheaper options for non-color-treated hair, if you don't mind the smell, are Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo and Conditioner.)

  • Aveda Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution

  • This has gotten mixed reviews, likely because it's not a cure-all remedy. It may not immediately solve dandruff, but I have found it quick and convenient at relieving that itchy, scratchy feeling. Just a quick shot (or three) on the itchy spots (easy with the root-focused spray nozzle) and my hands are suddenly happy to be resting at my side. Aveda also makes Scalp Benefits Balancing Shampoo and Conditioner, both of which reportedly smell good and have earned mostly great reviews.

  • If you know of products that either promote or relieve dry scalp, review them here!
