I don't think I'm alone in admitting that my acne breakouts didn't stop when I said sayonara to my teen years. I'm well into my 30s and still trying to find that magic cocktail of products that keep my skin clear consistently (this expert advice did help some). Thankfully though, I have TotalBeauty.com readers to join in my pity party and offer up these tried and true tips and products that have worked for them.

Tip1: "I have a beauty routine that I use everyday religiously and it works for me. I use a cleanser with salicylic acid (I am using the Avon Clearskin Blackhead Clearing Cleanser now but I use different ones as long as they have at least 2 percent salicylic acid). When I wash my face I leave the cleanser on for at least two minutes so it can really work. I use a purifying toner after that then I apply spot treatment acne cream. I give it time to absorb then I apply an oil-free moisturizer. Every other day I use Mary Kay Clarifying Mask." -- tenetene

Tip 2: "Try a natural treatment first which is gentle but effective. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables (especially greens) in your diet, exercise every day, get a good night’s sleep. Wash your face with aloe vera facial scrub at least twice a day. Aloe is a natural antiseptic and a good moisturizer. It is also a good skin healer and can clear acne scars more quickly." -- Emma_Johnson

Tip 3: "In the a.m. I use Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Acne Scrub, Persa-Gel for spot treatments and Patricia Wexler's Lotion for acne. I just tried MAC's Studio Sculpt and Mineralize powder, I love the foundation!! In the p.m. I use Philosophy Purity to remove all the grime and makeup. It does not dry out my skin. Then I use Patricia Wexler's peel for acne every other day, I love the peel! I really helps. Then [I apply] her lotion for acne and persa-gel ... " -- alule1997

Tip 4: "Every body and face is different, of course, but I decided to eliminate my acne myself, and I did it with natural remedies and oils (yes OILS). First, I cured my active acne with tea tree oil and when I started to take Acidophilus and Garlic pills I noticed that my acne stopped completely. Not one pimple after that. I started to exfoliate my face with baking soda and I used hydrogen peroxide (3 percent) as a toner in the mornings, and at night I used organic apple cider vinegar mixed with water and some drops of lemon juice as a toner. When it dries out my face I open a Vitamin E softgel and put it on my face to go to bed. You have to use sunscreen cause the vinegar and lemon are alpha hydroxys and your skin will be sensitive to the sun." -- Lituania

Tip 5: "I found that ... a cleanser with 2 percent salicylic acid works better than something with benzoyl peroxide. I use Clearasil Ultra Daily Face Wash in the morning and evenings with a Clarisonic brush. I have found that almost all acne washes will take off makeup. The lotion I use is Olay Complete for Combination/Oily skin. It takes about three weeks to really show if a routine is working and keeping it simple is best, one face wash and one lotion." -- pappish06
