  • Solutions to the Sarah Palin Updo

  • Has anyone noticed that in nearly every photo op, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain's VP nominee, sports the same updo? We managed to track down a few shots of her with her hair down -- a great look we think she should wear more often. But with many similar political hairstyles out there -- safe, plain and often up -- we're wondering: What do you think of the hairstyles of women in politics in general?

  • Let's start with Sarah Palin. I'd like to see her with a dark brown, medium-length 'do with layers. Thoughts?

    • Sarah Palin does better than most women politicians. She has nice hair and looks like a real human being. Agree that highlights and medium-length layers or low loose bun would look great on her. Saw pictures of her with loose long hair over the weekend - not bad but not great. Surely there\'s a Republican stylist somewhere (Cindy McCain?) who could give her a quick boost that will also work well for her on the campaign trail. Btw, I think the rigors of campaigning and always being in the public eye are what drive most women pols to safe, plain, stiff, dull hairdos - offset by \"colorful\" pantsuits. For women in politics or business, there\'s a fine line between looking good and looking too good - which is thought to distract from your message. But people inevitably are judged by how well they look. So, should candidates have stylists, too?

    • Yes, it\'s a dated do. But seriously, does anyone ask the same of the men? Capitol Hill needs to be renamed Comb-over Hill. There ought to be a congressional investigation into Carl Levin\'s comb-over. Talk about needing a makeover. Please!

    • I agree! Not only is she a busy politician, she is a new mom all over again and has possibly fallen into the trap of \"up and easy\". She needs a bit of a change but I wouldn\'t want her to cut too much off. The updo already makes her look older than she is. If she cut it for a \"smart\" look, she\'d lose some appeal in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with a woman looking pretty, even sexy, in office but I\'m sure she\'ll get a \"makeover\" if elected.

    • Her color is great, it could stand for a bit of inconspicuous highlights. The color isn\'t the problem. The first thing I thought when I saw her was that she needed a new hairdo. Ladies, what we have is a \"hair-don\'t\". This is a beautiful woman stuck in a rut of wearing a hair clip...a hair clip!! This may be the future VP of the greatest country in the free world! Let that hair down and get a smart cut!

    • I think she looked great with the honey blonde highlights. Agree she would look great if her hair was let out of that updo. Or even if she alternated with a lower loose bun or a ponytail.
