Ever wonder if at-home peel kits come close to the quality and results offered at a spa? I did. And I got the chance to put it to the test. Kinara launched their Red Carpet Facial Kit, a three-step treatment that includes a two-step peel and a mask. It's the at-home version of the uber popular treatment at their Los Angeles spa.

First, to start off the comparison, Olga (the spa's co-owner, genius aesthetician and, for full disclosure, TotalBeauty.com expert panel member) gave me the real-deal Red Carpet Facial, plus a bonus chat on upcoming skin trends (ingredient you'll be seeing soon: cherries!). I left the spa that day with glowing skin that looked less uneven in tone (I'm prone to redness) and felt like a baby's booty. Or as close as my face will ever get to that.

She suggests using the home kit once a week (twice if you're acne-prone), so one week after my facial, I tried it. What I loved at first sight is that it came with a little dish and brush to apply the peel and mask -- a simple addition that made the experience more luxurious. I applied the peel first (step 1) and followed that with the neutralizer (step 2). The neutralizer somehow made the peel really tingle on my skin -- the same tingle I felt during my facial. Then it was time to apply the final step, the mask. It was light green in color and had an fluffy, almost mousse-y texture. It had a subtle cooling effect and was a relaxing way to end the peel process.

Overall the at-home kit did for me what my in-the-spa facial did (minus extractions and the chit-chat with Olga, of course). So if you can't splurge on a spa peel, this is a nice alternative.
