  • Does the term "face peel" freak you out a little bit? Me too. I have visions of my entire face peeling off in one big piece, like a snake shedding it's skin (sorry if that was TMI). This image has kept me from trying peels, whether they're from an esthetician or the at-home variety, but I think it's time for that to change.

  • These days, there are a ton of at-home peels that 1. Don't actually peel off all your skin and 2. Will do all kinds of amazing things for your face, like clear up acne, make pores look smaller and even skin tone. Sounds pretty sweet, right?

  • Of course, not all peels are created equal, but luckily for me, TotalBeauty.com readers have tested a bunch and shared which are worth the cash -- so my first peel won't be my last. Check out some of their favorites and least favorites below:

  • First, four they weren't feeling (click on them to see why):

  • No. 4: Patricia Wexler M.D. Exfoliating Glyco Peel System, $60

  • No. 3: Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Facial Peel, $25.99

  • No. 2: Elizabeth Arden Peel & Reveal Revitalizing Treatment, $32

  • No. 1: Philosophy The Microdelivery Multi-Use Peel Pads, $55

  • And, 10 they absolutely love:

  • No. 10: DERMAdoctor Physical Chemisty Facial Microdermabrasion + Multiacid Chemical Peel, $75

  • This beauty combines a peel with another nifty dermatologist tool, microdermabrasion, for amazing results. See what it does here.

  • No. 9: Kinara Red Carpet Facial Kit, $145

  • This reader (and editor) favorite gives "quiz results." What kind of results, you ask? Click here to see.

  • No. 8: Philosophy The Microdelivery Peptide/Vitamin C In-Home Peel, $65

  • Readers hated the peel pads, but they love this two step process, saying it gives them "baby soft skin." Click here for more details.

  • No. 7: Principal Secret Reclaim Age Braker Enzyme Mask and Peel, $24

  • Readers call this "wonderful for the price." Click here to see why they're willing to pony up the dough.

  • There's more peels where these came from, click here to see the top six at-home peels.

  • • Peels are one way to fight acne, but if you've got it you'll need this guide to really beat it.

  • • Follow up that lovely peel with the perfect serum for your face, find it here.

  • • Peels can be a bit drying, so don't forget to moisturize after with one of these top products.
