They're Here to Stay! Fall Hair Trend: Accessories
- Posted by Melissa on August 18, 2009 at 10:56AM
Hair accessories came back in a big way last year, including everything from the flashy headbands donned in every episode of "Gossip Girl," to the bitty braids made popular by LC on "The Hills." Celebs love them; and now, everything from scrunchies, to flowers, to the EZ Comb is seen in everyone's locks!
So, will this fall season finally shake off the headband trend? It doesn't look that way! In fact, one of the major Fall 2009 hair trends is MORE hair accessories! In the past, we've seen celebrities take this style from cute to ... crazy. Don't forget Lady Gaga's outlandish hats and hairpieces, or the comeback of clip-in (and colorful!) hair extensions. And the popularity of new hair inventions like the EZ Comb and ZannClip show that women want something more than your average hair tie.
So, how can you rock this trend without taking it too far? Fashion Week's off-center chignon and deliberately messy bun, embellished with decorative bobby pins, jewels and flowers, will be a big hit this fall.
To take it from the runway to your daily life, remember that the trend is all about creativity and individuality. I know I have perfected the messy bun, but for those of you who don't already use this hairstyle as your lazy go-to, here's how: Pull hair to the back of your head, keeping it loose for a casual look. (Or add a braid along the hairline before you start this style.) Either twist remaining hair the same as the chignon, or bunch the ponytail in your hand and use an elastic to secure it to your head. The idea is not to be perfect, but to let pieces stick out and look haphazard. Then have fun with headbands, flowers, bobby pins, or even hair sticks that can substitute for elastics.
Have fun with this fall trend, but remember: sometimes less is more!
