Is full customization the next frontier of skin care? Clinique is certainly banking on it with the upcoming launch of Clinique iD, an exciting new line of moisturizers.
"Today, we have pushed the boundaries of innovation with the first custom-fit hydrating system, Clinique iD,"
global brand president Jane Lauder tells WWD. The custom collection is reportedly based around the brand's iconic line of Dramatically Different moisturizers.
Users can choose from three bases designed for three different skin types (aka the existing
Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion,
Moisturizing Gel and
Moisturizing Jelly). This base is then matched with a serum, packaged in a cartridge within the moisturizer itself. There are five serums to choose from, each designed to address a different skin care concern: irritation, pores/uneven texture, uneven skin tone, fatigue and fine lines. Multiply the bases by the serums and you've got yourself a total of 15 possible combinations.
The packaging is unique as well: The cartridge keeps the serum separate from the moisturizer and when you use the pump, it dispenses 90 percent base and 10 percent serum. This, along with the formulations themselves, have reportedly been in development in South Korea for the past two years.
Another exciting aspect? Even with the custom options, the line still comes at an affordable price point: Each 125 mL bottle will retail for $39, which is fairly accessible, especially given the fact that the product combines two steps of your routine.
Though not entirely unique (is it just us, or do the new moisturizers bear a passing resemblance to
Skin Inc's custom, mixable serums, right down to the candy-colored encapsulated actives?), Clinique's latest launch still represents an exciting step forward for the customized skin care game — and we're certainly excited to give it a try.
Clinique iD will launch on the brand's website on December 1. It'll be available on other retailers' websites starting on December 15 and will be available in stores on December 26.
