9 Cool Girl Haircuts That You're Going to Want Right Now

Bobs, lobs, blunt cuts, layers — these are the best haircuts of fall, according to top stylists

The Curly Cut With Fringe
Ideal for: curly hair of any thickness

"No matter what the style, it's all about the fringe" this season, says Roche. While smooth, 1960s-inspired bangs (see: Alexa Chung, Zooey Deschanel) have been popular in recent years, they're trendy for every hair texture right now. "Fringe is back and it's a great way to update your hair, straight or curly," says Vigi.

One of the most surprising trends to emerge this season: big, "Flashdance"-inspired curls with bangs. Model Mica Arganaraz has been wearing the cut for ages, and Mandy Moore recently got on the bandwagon of this throwback style.

If you already have curly hair, ask your stylist to cut layers and feathery bangs. If your curls need more oomph, this retro style begs for a retro styling tool: sponge rollers.

The Relaxed Lob
Ideal for: straight or wavy hair of any thickness

If you think the lob is over, think again -- stylish actresses like Sarah Hyland and Priyanka Chopra have stepped out with freshly cut lobs this fall. Our experts confirm the lob isn't going anywhere this season, but it's got a new twist.

"The lob will still be in," says Leal, "but the wave pattern is going to be more relaxed and edgy." The messy beach waves of summer are gone; now, the lob has a subtle bend with smooth ends.

Get Ciara's look by wrapping sections of hair just once around a curling iron. When your waves have cooled, brush them out or finger-comb them until they're smooth.

The Mid-Length Layered Cut
Ideal for: any hair texture and thickness

The lob is still here this fall, but some tastemakers have begun growing out their lobs, thereby setting a new trend: "in-between" hair, neither long nor short, softened by layers and light texture.

"The lob is still popular, but I think it's a bit longer, and a little more refined and polished," says Vigi. With this cut, she explains, "you can still have the sexiness of longer hair, and still be modern."

Potempa recommends reshaping your lob with "piece-y layers" and simply letting it grow -- ideally, a few inches past shoulder length. Shampoo your hair at night and sleep on it for Aimee Song's bedhead effect, or add texture with the Beachwaver S1 styling iron.

The Single-Length Long Cut
Ideal for: straight or wavy hair of any thickness

Minimalists, rejoice: Clean cuts are about to be cool again. Although layered styles are still hot, tastemakers will "bring the one-length cut back," Chaplin predicts. A center part and smooth texture make this cut particularly sophisticated for fall.

And while short haircuts aren't going anywhere, long hair is also back in vogue; just ask the ever-stylish Olivia Palermo. "I personally think it will be more about length this year," says Sturdivant-Drew. "Long hair is back, sexy and fun!"
