Buttock Augmentation, or the Brazilian Butt Lift, as it's commonly marketed, is on the rise. Procedures increased 58 percent from 2012 to 2013, according to new numbers from by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

"Over the past decade, we've seen a cultural shift towards a greater acceptance of and a desire for a rounder, more prominent derriere in specific regions across the country, so the increase in buttock augmentation procedures is not that surprising," said ASAPS president Jack Fisher, in a statement released by the organization.

This trend is evident in pop culture, as songs titled "Bubble Butt" top the charts and Kim K's ample rear selfies get over one million likes on Instagram. The procedure involves taking fat from other areas of the body (buh-bye, thunder thighs) and injecting it into the butt.

But Dr. Jason Pozner, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Florida, says the requirements for insurance coverage are strict. "They measure your BMI, your weight, your height, and you have to get a certain amount of fat taken out for it to be covered," he says.
