You know what's always missing from those "do blondes have more fun" studies? Um, redheads of course! These fiery-haired ladies stand out in a crowd and could easily win the crown for most-fun hair color.

One caveat though: red hair color tends to fade faster than blonde or brown, so here are a few of my favorite tips to keep it looking fresh as long as possible:

Tip 1: Always, always shampoo with a product made for color-treated hair. It won't strip as much color. Also, try to shampoo as little as possible and always follow up with conditioner.

Tip 2: Get your hair as healthy as possible before dyeing. Why? Because damaged hair attracts more hair dye, leaving you with blotchy-looking color. So, trim split ends, lay off the heat-styling, and deep condition the day before you dye.

Tip 3: After you dye your hair, you may know not to shampoo for 24-48 hours to keep color from stripping. Another no-no: using alcohol-based styling products within that time period, since these can fade color too.

Tip 4: Protect your hair from the sun too, it's a major color fader. The easiest way? Stay out of the sun or wear a hat. The more stylish way? Use hair products with UV protectants in them (like L'Oreal EverPure UV Spray, $8.99).
