It was "let's give 'Modern Family' every comedy award night" at the 63rd Emmy Awards SUnday night. The hit show received the award for Outstanding Comedy Series for the second year in a row along with a slew of other statues. Though Sofia Vergara, one of the show's leading ladies, didn't walk away with an award, her stunning red Vera Wang gown and matching lip definitely snagged the win for best look of the night.
We spoke to CoverGirl makeup artist Kayleen McAdams, mastermind behind Vergara's Emmys makeup (and yes, Rachel McAdams' sister) for her step-by-step guide to recreating Vergara's look.
Face: "I started with a concealer (
COVERGIRL Invisible Concealer in Honey, $4.39) under her eyes and wherever she needs a little extra coverage. I then used
COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Foundation in Soft Honey (#255), $13.99, and set it with
COVERGIRL Clean Pressed Powder in Warm Beige (#145), $6.99, for a flawless finish. After that I used
COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Plush Peach, $10.49, and set that cream blush with
COVERGIRL Classic Colors Blush in Natural Glow, $5.49.
Eyes: "For her eyes, I used
COVERGIRL Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow in Hot Toffee, $3.19, in the crease, followed by
COVERGIRL Liquiline Eyeliner in Black Fire, $8.79, which I swiped along the top and bottom lashline to help add definition. To set the eyeliner, I used
COVERGIRL Queen Collection 1-Kit Eyeshadow in Black Tie, $3.19, along the top and bottom lashline to prevent smudging, and I topped off her lashes with several coats of
COVERGIRL Lash Blast Volume mascara in Very Black, $7.79."
Lips: "I sent her off to the red carpet stocked with powder and her favorite lipstick.
COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipcolor in Rapture (#280), $6.99, is a bright coral that I rarely do for Sofia, but we wanted to do something different and playful for the big night."
And that's how it's done, a simple and elegant look that's glamorous enough for a red carpet but easy enough to do at home. Want more expert tips?
