When Makeup Artist Pat McGrath Speaks, I Listen
In the beauty world, there are makeup artists ... and then there's Pat McGrath. As the Global Creative Design Director for all of Proctor & Gamble, she has a serious scope of influence. Her work at Fashion Week in New York, London, Milan, and Paris dictates the makeup trends every season -- with input from the top fashion designers in the world -- and that's not an understatement.

I recently had the opportunity to hear her talk about what's coming up for fall 2012. And in addition to learning about a lot of great runway looks -- which I'll share when we get closer to September -- she gave some fantastic general makeup tips. I'm going to start implementing these three now:

1. I'm bringing back my blue mascara. While McGrath says it's going to be huge for fall, I'm going to get ahead of the trend and start wearing blue mascara now. "In the daylight it's just fantastic," says McGrath. The blue also makes the whites of your eyes appear whiter.

2. I'll use concealer as an eye makeup base. "If you're going to wear a bold eye look, you have to have the lids prepared," she says. She used concealer underneath the eye makeup of basically every model at Fashion Week.

3. I'm going to try McGrath's cat-eye technique: "Start with a pencil and shadow close to the lashes, and then put your liquid liner on top," says McGrath. "If you make a mistake, take a cotton swab and swipe it away. " Her go-to liner is CoverGirl LineBlast 24 Hour Felt Tip Eyeliner, $7.99.

What do you think of these tips? Think you'll try any or all?
