The Product:
CoverGirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation
The Price: $13.99
The Company Spiel: "A foundation focused solely on tone discoloration and age spots. Instantly covers discolorations, fine lines, and wrinkles, while helping to improve skin tone over time."
The Real Deal: I'm one of those idiots who fried themselves in the sun for most of the late 80s and pretty much all of the 90s. I'm also someone who sincerely dislikes wearing foundation. Why? A) I'm too lazy to apply it. B) I'm not a fan of that skin-smothering sensation. C) I'm never wholly convinced that anyone's falling for the "look, my skin's all one even shade" appearance.
However, because it's recently become painfully apparent that I'm also sun-spotted and more wrinkly than I'd like to admit, the promise of CoverGirl & Olay's Tone Rehab Foundation proved too alluring to pass up.
The verdict? For once, I have to say that I'm happy to have been a sucker for a convincing ad campaign. This stuff works! I've only been using it for a few weeks so I can't yet speak to the efficacy of the "helping to improve skin tone over time" claim, but I can talk with certainty about the great coverage and the fact that it hardly feels noticeable on my skin. (And, with 12 shades, it's not hard to find a great fit.)
The Upshot: Cue the cliche: I'm not getting any younger and since my sun spots are more than likely here to stay, this foundation may well be my new beauty BFF. Now if I could just muster the energy to apply it every morning. Baby steps ...
