The pop star, who walked away with a slew of awards (and a meat handbag and hat) at Sunday night's VMAs, is arguably the most sought-after name in music right now and Coty, Inc. is excited to be partnering with the music super star. Stephen Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing in the Coty Beauty division, told Womens Wear Daily that the agreement was hammered out last week and the first Lady Gaga womens scent is expected to be launched in spring 2012. Mormoris described Lady Gaga as a "phenomenon," and clearly sees the singer as a fascinating cultural force" who is capable of electrifying the market.
Coty, Inc. is known for its celebrity fragrances and has also partnered with other big name singers like Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Jennifer Lopez.
The blogosphere has been abuzz with rumors of what the scent will smell like. Some have been saying it might smell like meat, as a result of Gagas latest stunt, donning a dress made entirely of meat at this years 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) released a statement as a reaction to Gagas meat ensemble.
"No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal," PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said in the statement. "Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that's the look they were going for, they achieved it."
"It is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth," Gaga stated on stage as she accepted her VMA. "However, it has many interpretations, but for me this evening ... if we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And I am not a piece of meat."
