P&G Beauty Products Are Going Green with Sustainable Packaging

Mega corporation Proctor & Gamble (P&G) announced today that they will be repackaging three of their leading global beauty brands with sustainable, renewable packaging made from Brazilian sugarcane. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who endorses Pantene in Brazil, announced the sustainability plan at an event this morning, which will be applied to select beauty products of Pantene Pro-V, CoverGirl and MaxFactor. Over the next two years, the corporation will be replacing the petroleum-based plastic cases with renewable alternatives -- namely, sugarcane. Resin producer Braskem SA already provides the company the current plastic packaging in Brazil, but will begin to replace them with a plastic material made from ethanol derived from the sugarcane.

The newly packaged products will be available in stores as early as next year and is projected to take another year to take effect worldwide.

Vice-Chairman of P&G Beauty and Grooming Ed Shirley said in a press release, "We’re leading the [beauty] industry in science-based sustainable innovation and demonstrating our commitment to sustainability."

Shirley also alluded to more environmentally friendly initiatives to be made in the future. P&G ensures to go green without any "trade-offs in performance, aesthetic or value."

I'm interested in how the packaging will look … and taste. It sure sounds like a sweet proposition.

Speaking of eating, Gisele has been making recent headlines regarding her call for a worldwide law to mandate breastfeeding babies for the first six months. She was quoted in an interview with UK's Harper's Bazaar saying, "Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?"

She incited a firestorm of controversy with celebs and doctors both supporting and criticizing her statement.

In a later update in her blog, the new mom said she didn't mean to offend anyone and simply said as mothers "we're all trying our best."

Whether Gisele's medical advice should be trusted or not, her taste in hair and makeup can't be disputed. To get Giselle's signature look check out these video tutorials for her wavy hairstyle and bronzy makeup.
