Evan Rachel Wood's Sultry New Gucci Guilty Fragrance Ad Is Revealed
Wood was selected for good reason, despite the protest of online media. The young star, who last year shook up the season on HBO's vampire romp, 'True Blood' as Sophie-Anne Leclerq, the "queen of the vampires," has graced many red carpets and Hollywood events in the Italian fashion label -- including the 2009 Fashion Group International's annual Night of Stars in New York City, where she wore a one of a kind Gucci dress. Frida Giannini, Creative Director of The Gucci Group, is also of fan of Wood's tattoo, explaining how it fit right in, an homage to Pink Floyd's 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond.' "Her tattoo is part of her character, so we left it in [the ad]. We didn't want to transform her into someone else," said Giannini. Additionally, the Italian creative director explained that the ad's fittingly noir soundtrack is courtesy of London-based band Friendly Fires and its cover version of Depeche Mode's song 'Strange Love.'
The 21 year-old indie darling joined James Franco, who fronts the men's fragrance collection, as a face for Gucci. And while Wood, who first gained notice for her scene-stealing performances in films like 'Little Secrets' and 'Thirteen,' was recently announced as the new Gucci girl, in a previous interview Giannini told Women's Wear Daily, "Wood is such a talented and beautiful actress, I have always admired her confidence and her ability to transform herself in front of the camera. Even though she can appear shy at times, when the camera starts rolling, she becomes animated and vivacious. She is incredible, very sexy, and her eyes and face really attract the people of her generation."
"I chose [her] as she has very strong character," Frida Giannini, Gucci creative director, told WWD. "She's young, but rising and [an] influential figure. I didn't want to offer this project to someone overexposed or too well known. Instead, I wanted a fresh individual that would coincide with the image of the project."
