When volumizing shampoos and sprays aren't cutting it, here are a few ways to give your hairstyle a lift.

If you shower at night, add volume by morning by sleeping with your hair in a high bun. Work a bit of gel into your roots -- something with a light hold that won't feel too crunchy -- and then pull hair into a ponytail that sits on the very top of your head. Loosely twist it into a bun and pin in place. In the morning take hair down and shake it loose. If hair is still damp, finish drying with a blow dryer, being careful not to touch your roots too much: The oils from your hands can add weight to hair that you just spent all night lifting.

With a round brush, start at the roots and lift each section straight up into the air. You should focus the air from your dryer up the hair shaft, toward the ceiling. By blowing the hair in the opposite direction than it normally grows, you're adding volume, which will give you beautiful hair. When the brush reaches the ends of your hair, change direction and start blowing down as you wind the hair on the brush. Basically, you're adding lift and volume on the way up, and shine on the way down.

If hair is limp mid-day, perk it back up with this tip. Take small sections of hair -- starting with the hair in front of your ear -- and lift toward the ceiling. Spritz the root with hair spray, let it dry for a few seconds, and then blast it with hot air from your blow dryer. Move on to a section right on top of the one you just styled, and repeat. Do this only to the front-most section of hair that frames the face, since that's what people notice most. By starting at the bottom of your hair and working your way up toward the crown, you're creating a base for each section to rest on, which gives beautiful hair volume.

Seems like it damaged her hair more than volumizing it...

This video had me smiling and laughing at it's cheesy-ness. Oh my goodness, her voice is so patronizing. Still, I might try sleeping with my hair in a loose top knot with product to see if it adds some lift.

My hair gets disgustingly greasy if I sleep with wet hair. I have learned that it just doesn't work for me.

This looks uncomfortable...

Suggesting that people sleep with wet hair encourages scalp mold. This is a common issue and concern. Hi, my name is Christopher Nejman and I am a professional hair stylist in Tampa, florida. Scalp mold can be confused with dandruff. Scalp mold is self inflicted cause by not drying the root/scalp area. Here is an anaology that will make sense to hair-- wash a pair of sock, spin sry, roll them up and stick them in your clost for a couple days. Then unroll the sock. Smell it and notice the mold beginning to grow. This is what happens to hair and your scalp. Before pulling it up or back in a pony tail all the time, besure the scalp is dry. Without air circulation and keeping that scalp dry, scalp mold will begin.

The model was such a mess - stage makeup and dark roots - that I really couldn't concentrate on listening to the video.

Love the comments about the voice! Do they take a class? I agree 100% with the other comments!

Not a very informative video

Well, after watching this super UNINFORMATIVE video I realize I am no more educated on volumizing my hair then I was before I watched it. I agree with the comments I read below about this model really needing to touch up those roots!!! I mean, really!! And I can't imagine sleeping with a bun on the top of my head at night either!! I sleep on a silk pillow case because it reduces frizz and have also heard that by braiding my hair at night, not only will I have awesome waves in the morning, but I will also have some volume. I am going to try it out and see how it works. As for this video, two very unenthusiastic thumbs DOWN!!
