Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry at MAC Cosmetics:
Hello, I'm Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry from MAC Cosmetics, here today for some really fun how-to Halloween makeup looks.
So the first look that I'm going to show you today is the look I think is going to be really popular this Halloween: The lovely Amy Winehouse. Who doesn't want to have that great eyeliner? So I'm going to show you step-by-step how to get Amy's makeup look.
I'm starting with a light vanilla eyeshadow that I'll be using on the eyelid from the lashline all the way up to the eyebrow with a flat brush. You can pack it on, pasty is good when it comes to Amy's makeup. And just use it all over again from the lashline to the brow and that gives you a light base for a light eyeshadow. Amy's signature makeup look is eyeliner, so don't be afraid to go crazy with the liner. So what I'm using is a gel-based eyeliner with a very thick eyeliner brush because more is better when it comes to this makeup look. Get a little bit of the brush and I'm starting with the inner portion of the lashline and really pressing the brush.
When Amy's eyes are open you really see the lid looking a little on the dark side. So take that brush and lay it flat against the eye because that'll give you the thickness that you want. Then take that brush and come on up into a point, bring it back down. See, instant Amy. Fill that line all the way in and again bring it to a nice point. If it looks a little shaky, that's OK.
You do your make up with your eyes open. So what you're going to want to do is tilt your chin up and look down into the mirror like a queen looking down at your people -- you're going to apply your eyeliner that way.
So you're going to want to make sure that your eyeliner is completely dry before you actually open your eyes, because what could happen is it could transfer if it's still wet, giving you a really black crease at the eye right here. If that does happen, wait for it to dry, take a little remover on a Q-tip and just remove it.
A little definition on the bottom is something that Amy also does. Take an angle brush and get a little bit of your makeup onto the brush, tap off any excess and take a very neutral -- kind of a blackish gray shadow -- with an angle brush and just use it from the outer corner right into the inner. I like to use shadow, because for one thing it is little easier to apply and secondly, if it starts smudging during the night then you'll really gonna look like Amy.
Take the mascara on the bottom lashes. I always do the bottom first, because when you do the top first no matter how dry you think they are -- they're never dry. And when you look to do the bottom suddenly you have a solar system of little black dots all over your eye.
OK so now after your eyes are done, just take a little mascara wand and brush through your brows just to get them into shape and into place. She does have very elegant arched eyebrows. If you need to fill them in with a little pencil or shadow that's fine, just to fill in the blanks, but make sure they're groomed nicely.
But one thing she is really known for is a light pinky gloss and so what I'm going to use is just that. A light pinky gloss just all over the lip with a brush -- it's easy, it's low maintenance -- and just apply it all over your lips. If you want to use lip liner that's fine.
So just a little beauty mark right there, and voila instant Amy. This is just easy. This makeup look would not be complete without a black, ratty, beehive wig that looks fabulous. Amy sort of has a very throw-and-go sort of look. Get any wig at the Halloween shop, pile on a few on top of each other -- it'll look great.

If I was Amy, I'd feel pretty offended that people were making a Halloween costume out of me? hahaha.
