Here's the first "makeup for photos" mistake: Wearing foundation that blends right into your skin. This makes your face appear paler than it actually is in person, since the makeup blends right into your skin. Here's the photo fix: Opt for a foundation one shade deeper than your natural skin tone. To choose, swipe a dab of the foundation onto your cheek; if it matches, skip it and go a bit darker instead.

Next mistake: Layering a blemish with too much concealer, foundation or powder in an attempt to disguise it. Here's the photo fix: Apply tinted moisturizer to the problem area, then, if that's not enough to hide it, dab a tiny bit of concealer onto the blemish. Blend outward using a sponge or fingertip. Adding anything more will appear cake-y on film, so resist the urge to powder.

Next mistake: Applying too much lip color. The photo fix: Line and fill in lips with neutral lip pencil, then top with gloss. The look will appear more natural and less "done" or severe on film.

Next mistake: Playing up your eyes and cheeks. The photo fix: Pick just one -- eyes or cheeks, whichever feature you love best. Then layer your makeup accordingly. For eyes, add more shadow to the crease. For cheeks, add an extra dose of blush to apples. Highlighting only one of these features will keep your look more natural, but really show off that highlighted area on film.
