Are you an olfactory person? I catch a whiff of a fragrance and it instantly transports me back to a place and time. Love that. Sometimes, just for kicks (and an instant stroll down memory lane) I'll stop at a department store fragrance counter to get a spritz of a scent I wore years ago because, somehow, the various stages of my life are as clearly identifiable by the perfumes I liked at the time…

Certain smells can turn back time -- if only for a moment

My husband doesn't wear cologne. Not because he's too incredibly manly, but because he doesn't have a sense of smell. While that's weird (and kinda sad) for him, it's also a bummer for yours truly because scents are important to me. A whiff of a stranger's familiar perfume can take me back to a scarily specific place and time -- as can certain suntan oils, cooking spices and even random cleaning…

Lately, I've been absolutely obsessed with Whoopie! Shea Butter Cream by Farmhouse Fresh , $30. It smells like the most delicious wedding cake you've ever tasted, and I instantly get happy when I take a whiff. I couldn't breathe in the elevator yesterday morning. Why? Because the woman next to me was wearing way too much perfume.
