How to Copy Katy Perry's AMA Updo (Not the Pink Part)
Posted 11/21/11 at 10:14AM by Audrey Fine
Amid constant conflicting rumors of an imminent divorce from/baby with husband Russell Brand, the effervescent ball of energy that is Katy Perry refuses to cower in a corner, choosing instead to remain true to the spirit that's won her legions of fans.
Witness her style on the red carpet at last night's American Music Awards. It was a rain-soaked weekend in Los Angeles and pink-haired Perry wisely decided that a chic updo was the right call. After all, it accentuated the lines of her Vivienne Westwood gown and helped her contend with the elements. The result? A classic hairstyle + irreverent hair color = picture perfect Perry.
For insight on how to recreate the very modern take on the classic French twist, we talked to the man responsible for her look, Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Renato Campora.
Step 1: To give Perry's hair a firm base, Renato applied Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel, $25, to her wet hair.
Step 2: He then blow-dried the hair while brushing it through with a flat brush.
Step 3: Renato used a one-inch curling iron throughout the hair to create body while giving it a sturdy foundation, and then heavily teased the hair to give it lots of volume.
Step 4: To create the final updo, Renato pushed the front of the hair forward and wrapped the rest into a French twist, securing it with hairpins. Then he wove a Westwood accessory into the twist and secured the look with Fekkai Coiff Fini Sheer Hold Hairspray, $25.

I love Katy Perry and one of the main reasons I do is because she can make any color of hair, any color of nails, and an anything goes attitude in fashion look effortless and right somehow! Her confidence carries it all! That and she is absolutely beautiful!
