Now I Know How It'd Feel to Wear a Year's Worth of Makeup -- All at Once

Over the long holiday weekend, a friend sent me a link to the video you see below and let's just say I was so taken with it that I missed out on a few Roman candles, hot dogs, and other such 4th o' July festivities. Talk about being entranced. Watch it and I'm pretty sure you'll be, too.

Here's the deal. Wacky Dutch directors, Lernert and Sander (who once blew dry a chocolate bunny and filmed as it melted) had a mission: "to apply 365 layers of makeup in one day to see how much is needed to go from a natural look to an outrageous one."

So, they recruited a model (Hannelore Knuts), a makeup artist (Ferry van der Nat) and a makeup brand (Ellis Faas) and got to work applying an entire year's worth -- roughly 8 ounces -- of products.

The breakdown went like this:

seven bottles of Ellis Faas Skin Veil, $65, foundation

two bottles of Ellis Faas Creamy Eyes, $36, eye makeup

three tubes of Ellis Faas Milky Lips, $35, lipstick

two bottles of Ellis Faas Blush, $32, blush.

And, after nine hours of layering on the look, it was complete.

Watch the video below and let me know if you were as rapt as I was. (I kept imagining I was the model having all that stuff applied and found myself getting incredibly claustrophobic.) Oh, and guess what? They may soon get to work on "two years of makeup." What? You think only Hollywood blockbusters command sequels?

Of course, using all that luxe-priced makeup in an experiment was a tadprofligate. So, if they're reading, I'd like to tell Lernert and Sander (and you) which beauty items I think are a waste of money so that maybe they can stick to a better budget for the next installment.
