Reader Q&A: This weather is making my curly hair crazy! What can I do?
Posted 06/13/11 at 12:58PM by Audrey Fine
This week's reader question comes from Minda in Michigan who's been dealing with her curly hair in late spring's frizz-inducing weather. But, really, this question could've come from any one of us who struggles with curls and humidity. Right?
This weather is making my curly hair crazy! What can I do? Help!
Never fear Minda (and the rest of you), we're here to help. Follow these tips to regain control of your hair and get the gorgeous curls you crave.
Tip 1: Use a hydrating shampoo: Moisture is crucial for curl health. Be sure to use a shampoo that is designed for curls -- it contains more moisturizers. (Try Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series Dry to Moisturized Shampoo, $4).
Tip 2: Deep condition: Every other week, apply an intense conditioning treatment from roots to ends to keep curls hydrated and, in turn, healthy. Try Pantene Pro-V Fortifying Deep Fortifying Treatment, $4.99.
Tip 3: Define Curls: The reason curly hair gets frizzy is because it can be porous and dry. To combat the dreaded "halo," use a frizz-fighting, curl-defining cream like Frederic Fekkai Luscious Curls Cream, $20.
Tip 4: Before using any heated appliances (blow dryers, curling irons, etc.), coat your hair with a thermal protective cream or spray. Nothing looks worse than fried curls, period. Try Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series Heat Protection & Shine Spray, $7.
Hopefully these tips will help Minda (and every other frizzy head out there) contend with her curls as the humidity index rises. For more tips on keeping your cool in the looks department this summer, watch this Total Look video.
