My Recent Obsession? Flirting with Red Hair
Posted 07/14/11 at 07:07AM by Audrey Fine
As someone who's had an interesting experience (yes, that's how I now refer to my temporary insanity) with red hair of late, I've become hyper-aware of other redheads.
Several celebrities have recently made headlines for having gone red -- either for a role or for fun. Blake Lively was a fiery redhead to play Carol Ferris in "The Green Lantern" (a.k.a. the blockbuster-that-fizzled) and "Mad Men's" buxom bombshell, Christina Hendricks, has admitted that she dyed her naturally blonde hair red as a kid and liked it so much that she's stuck with it ever since.
The one quick-change starlet who's really caught my eye though is Emma Stone. I wrote about her beautiful spring makeup back in April when she was an extremely pale blonde, but by the MTV Movie Awards on June 3, she had reverted to her "Superbad" red -- hey, why not? It was that movie/look that landed her on the star map. (And, clearly, judging by this early peek at "Vanity Fair's" August issue, she was blonde long enough to pose for famed photographer Patrick Dermarchelier.)
Personally, I dig the fact that she rocks both shades but bucked the "safe route" and returned to her signature red. And, while she wasn't the inspiration behind my dalliance with the shade, I respect her gumption. If I had any, I'd have had the colorist fix my box-color red rather than resorting to a (yawn) safe brown.
Which look do you prefer on Emma? Think the beach-y blonde brings out her best or do you like the brazen red? Oh, and if you want to weigh in on a Total Beauty staffer's recent color change, here's your chance!
