The makeup giant prepares for its collaboration with Disney to hit shelves as the controversial Rodarte project is axed.
MAC Makeup News: Ready to Launch Disney "Venemous Villains" Line, Shelving Rodarte Collection
Due in stores next month, the limited edition color collection will launch at all MAC locations and features palettes created with four famed villains in mind.
Naturally, there's Cruella De Vil, whose collection includes a light yellow pink lipstick called "Innocence Beware" and a mid tone brown plum blush called "Darkly My Dear."
Then there's Snow White's Evil Queen who has a bright coral "Toxic Tale" lipglass and burgundy "Vanglorious" eyeshadow in her collection.
Maleficent, Sleeping Beauty's self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil," boasts a "Bad Fairy" red nail lacquer that has multi-changing pigments and "She Who Dares" mineralize eyeshadow in a deep navy/deep forest green.
And, Dr. Faciler, the voodoo master from the recent "Princess and the Frog," gets his own pretty potions including "Resort Life," an off-white Lipglee and "Cajun," a sheer bronze Magically Cool Liquid Powder.
MAC has, of course, had many successful collaborations in the past including Heatherette, Hello Kitty, Liberty of London and many more, but the kibosh has been put on the expected venture with Rodarte.
The collaborative effort with Rodarte's founding Mulleavy sisters that was to have featured different Mexican states and elements, has been shelved after a nail lacquer called "Juarez" got lots of bad press last month because Juarez is an impoverished Mexican factory town notorious for the number of women between the ages of 12 and 22 who have been raped and murdered with little or no response from police."
MAC issued the following statement on its Facebook page: Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our M·A·C Mexican staff and colleagues, M·A·C has made the decision not to ship the M·A·C Rodarte limited edition makeup collection. This decision will have no impact on M·A·C's commitment to donate all of its projected global profits from this collection to local and international groups that work to improve the lives of the women and girls of Juarez. We are currently conducting due diligence to ensure we donate to organizations with a proven record of directly supporting the women and girls of Juarez.
M·A·C and Rodarte are deeply and sincerely sorry and we apologize to everyone we offended. We have listened very closely to the feedback of concerned global citizens. We are doing our very best to right this wrong. The essence of M·A·C is to give back and care for the community and Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. We are grateful for the opportunity to use what we have learned to raise awareness on this important issue.
How do you think MAC handled the Rodarte situation AND are you excited about the Venemous Villains collection?
