Elizabeth Hurley (At Least We Think It Is) Heralds Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On hand to introduce the event - and Estee's daughter and grand daughter, Evelyn and Aerin, was Elizabeth Hurley. Clad in a skin tight red, asymmetrical gown, Hurley looked fabulous but was hardly recognizable! Is great skin care to thank for her young, slightly different looking face, or has Mrs. Arun Nayar (she's been married to the Indian textile heir since 2007) undergone some more permanent procedures?
Speculation about her face aside, Hurley, who's been affiliated with Estee Lauder since the cosmetics giant gave her her first modeling gig back in 1994, has been working with the company to raise awareness about the disease for years -- it's a cause that's near and dear to her heart as her grandmother succumbed to it many years ago. The company even created an "Elizabeth Pink" lipstick, the sales from which benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The Lauder family and the company is so active in helping to raise awareness about the disease that Evelyn Lauder, is often credited with having created the ubiquitous pink ribbon that serves as its symbol. "In 1992, I co-created the Pink Ribbon with Alexandra Penney, then editor-in-chief of SELF magazine, and in turn started The Estée Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign," the company's matriarch told The Huffington Post. "Today, the Pink Ribbon has become the ubiquitous symbol of breast health, and I'm thrilled to share that, to date, The Estée Lauder Companies has distributed more than 110 million Pink Ribbons worldwide."
Hurley, 45, who, along with Lauder is trying to set a new world record for raising awareness by lighting 40 global landmarks in a 24 hour period (staring with the Taj Mahal and ending with the Empire State Building) had a wonderful evening at Bloomie's but ended up with an ice pack on her face back at the hotel -- and not because of any post-operative mishaps.
'Back in hotel & just walked into the end of a clothes rail. Big bruise coming up by right eye," Hugh Grant's ex Tweeted from her room. "Not ideal for tomorrow's TV...'
We'll, no doubt, be hearing more about Hurley and the ever- important campaign, the motto for which, this year, is "Connect. Communicate. Conquer. Prevent Breast Cancer One Woman At A Time. The Pink Ribbon. Wear It. Share It" over the coming month.
And, remember, if you're over 40, get a mammogram!
