Our review team receives and tests thousands of products each year. Through repeated hands-on use, editors review each product, then rate it on a 1 to 10 scale (worst to best). Products are reviewed on three major and three minor criteria:

How we test products

Our review team performs hands-on testing of every product we review. Tests vary from five uses through several weeks of daily application, depending on the category.

First, we begin with use of the product as the manufacturer instructs. We take into account all the factors of importance to a user, such as appearance, comfort, longevity of wear, among many other factors.

Then, if applicable, we perform tests with common alternate uses of the product. For example, we'll test a lip gloss alone, then worn over lip liner and lip color. These objective, precise and repeatable testing methods make for fair reviews, which allow you to compare two products and make an informed decision before you purchase.
