BIG Warning: Beware if Hair is Color-Treated!
Years ago, a colleague of mine came to school on a Monday and her hair was glorious--soft, shiny, and bouncy. I asked if she deep-conditioned it. She told me that her that her stylist had suggested just the opposite, that she wash it with baking soda added to her regular shampoo. My friend was informed that baking soda (obviously, a form of salt), is very effective at ridding tresses of a build...read moreup of oil, conditioners, mousses, sprays, and treatment products which occur over time. It will also remove chlorine from hair. (FYI--baking soda can be used in an emergency as a dry shampoo; sprinkle on hair, comb through, and then fluff out the remainder with a blow dryer.) I was surprised and thought it a bit unusual. After that, another friend of mine introduced me to Lush Cosmetics, explaining that her very favorite product was one of their best-selling items--"Big" Shampoo. Sharon said that her first experience with "Big" was comical. If you are unfamiliar: This is a rather unconventional shampoo. It comes in a tub and consists of over 50% Sea Salt, with other minerals added (Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil and Avocado Butter are also included as ingredients to soften and soothe). She dug out a good bit of the salt crystals and applied them to her head, rubbing them in. NOTHING HAPPENED. Only when she added lots of water did she work up a strong, rich lather. She loved the results--her hair had twice the volume it did before and felt full of life again. I decided that I wanted the same experience. I knew to use water liberally for abundant bubbles. I enjoyed the refreshing scent. My hair felt and smelled oh-so-clean. Volume? It was hard to tame. The salt had done the same as baking soda did with my initial friend--it removed the inevitable buildup we all accrue over time. But, with my hair chemically treated, the cuticle was rough, hair was dry, and my color was stripped. This is a great shampoo before any treatments, but make sure you are prepared to condition very well or you will have unruly locks on your hands (or, rather, your head). This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 2 of 2 people said helpful

BIG thumbs up for LUSH's Big Shampoo
I have very fine, limp hair so I was immediately drawn to LUSH's Big Shampoo when a LUSH store opened up in my area. The scent is fresh and subtle, but has staying power. This is a plus for me since the scent was so pleasant. You don't need much product to get a great lather. Since my hair is so fine it can get quite oily and for many shampoos it takes two washes for me to get a good lather an...read mored get all the build up away. It was so nice to get a lovely lather right off the bat with this shampoo. I usually use volumizing shampoos aimed at fine, oily hair. I did notice a slight improvement in the bounciness of my hair after using this shampoo in particular. It also just felt squeaky clean...more so than with my other volumizing shampoos. The only reason I am not giving this 10 stars is because it is not safe for color treated hair. My hair is naturally light brown, but I dye it to a dark brown in the winter. Therefore, this is a shampoo I need to reserve for the summer months when I let my hair get lighter. If you don't color treat your hair, then this product is a perfect 10! I just wish that LUSH would include information on their website about which products are suitable for color treated hair. This product is also vegan! This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 4 of 4 people said helpful

Favorite Lush Product
Big is the product that made fall in love with Lush. Just the experience of using the shampoo is worth the price. The salt particles feel great on the scalp and the smell is phenomenal! I use it to remove build-up which it is really effective at. I don't use it everyday, but not so much because it is so harsh, mostly because it is so expensive. My hair is thick and it works great! I think its because it feels great but is not too sweet or feminine smelling. This review is: Helpful | Not helpful | Inappropriate | 3 of 3 people said helpful
