They are shadows with sheen, but not to the point where they can't be worn anywhere. The color is true and really stays put--I didn't want to give it a twenty-four hour test, but it stayed in place a good eighteen hours for me before I removed my makeup. There was no creasing or caking whatsoever. It does dry very quickly after application, so be sure you have shadow where you want it before it sets (that's not a criticism--that's part of the reason it lasts so long). I'm more than impressed and am going to collect "Painted Purple," "Audacious Asphalt," and "Tough as Taupe" (just for now). I love that there is finally, at long last, an eyeliner of this type available at the drug store price point. This has highly pigmented and intense color, and I love the formula. Amazing!
This is actually an edited version of my initial review of these. I decided to edit my review because I have since found more uses for these, which makes them even more amazing, in my opinion. ;) So I got these in five different shades and they are all extremely blendable, very very pigmented and last all day. When I first started using them without a primer, they would sometimes go on a bit pa...read moretchy (especially the lighter colors), but with a primer - the application is perfect, they never crease on me and they look just as good at the end of the day as they did in the morning. Since I first reviewed these shadows I was only using them as shadows, but since then I have experimented a bit more with them and found out that there are more way you can use them... They are amazing as bases for glitter or just sparkly shadow. They can as well work as bases for matte eye shadows, because you can use them to bring out the color of your shadow even more. Just like some people use the "NYX" Milk Jumbo Eye Shadow pencil to boost the colors of their shadows. Except that with these you have a lot more option and I honestly find that "NYX" Jumbo pencils crease a lot and are very overrated. So definitely try these as a base for your shadow as well. And the other way I have been using these lately is for lining my eyes. I literally use them as I would use a cream eye shadow, and I find that it works out great. They don't smudge and they last all day. I'm really surprised that they don't market them as liners as well... Great staying power.....
But I still prefer using powder eyeshadow since this product works best with my fingers only. The staying power on this is amazing but the downside to this is it dries really quick even in the jar so the next time I use it, the color goes on really blotchy and dries up too quick before I get the chance to blend it out. This is not creamy at all compared to what other reviewers said. I had to rub my finger really hard into the product to get enough product onto my lid. It has amazing waterproof staying power but if you rub your eyes too hard while swimming, it will eventually rub off. Love to wear it alone or as a base!
I recently purchased my first ever Maybelline 24 hr Color Tattoo Cream Gel Eyeshadow and I am simply impressed and bummed out that I didn't give these a try years ago! The shade I have is #35 Tough As Taupe, and it is a beautiful gray color, which can be build-able to a deeper gray. Maybelline does classify these color tattoos as cream gel shadows but the consistency is a lot thicker than any cre...read moream or gel shadows that I own. I actually prefer the thickness of these shadows because I find that it allows powdered shadows to stick on better for a deeper and long lasting color intensity. I do wear these color tattoos alone but do prefer to top them off with powdered shadows, to increase the longevity of the wear. I find that when I wear the color tattoos alone, it begins to crease after about 8 hours, but if I use these as sort of like a base or primer and top it off with powdered shadows then it pretty much lasts over 12 hours without creasing. FYI, I have not tested these out for 24 hours...I mean really who wears makeup for 24 hours? Nonetheless, I do love this product and love how it looks alone and even as a base. As seen below in the swatches, the eyeshadow is intensified when applied over the color tattoo. I do apply the color tattoos with my fingers because I feel like I can control the amount of product I apply a lot better, and to me it applies more evenly and smoother with my fingers. Also, the finish seems to be matte, but a little bit of sheen can be seen depending on the lighting, which I love and it is why I picked this particular color up, since most of their other ones are metallic. Currently on the Maybelline website, they have 10 total colors, I know in the past they've had limited edition ones, and who knows maybe in the near future they will come out with more! These generally retail for around $6.99, I purchased mine from Ulta when they had their 40% off sale, so I got this baby for a super affordable price! This eye shadow is not bad, but it failed to impress me. It is easy to apply, and there are nice colors to choose from, but I wouldn't say the staying power is that impressive. Literally Like A Tattoo
All I can really say is... Wow. I have the most annoying eyelids in the world, the kind that smears eyeliner and eyeshadow (I'm not kidding) almost instantly after I apply it. Even with primer. And I am so glad I did. I've always admire Maybelline for their quality products and affordable prices, but this is truly one of the best products I had ever owned. Though the color selection is very limited (Maybelline, please fix that!), the one I got is absolutely beautiful (Inked in Rose, a shimmer, pale pink). And best of all, it lasted all day. No creasing, no fading, no smudging. At all. Its absolutely mind-blowing lasting power also helped my eyeliner stay in place with only a tiny bit of smudging. The container is a really cute and clean glass with a black screw on lid, and the eyeshadow itself is really creamy. Though it feels a bit dry, it really helps the product last all day as opposed to the more wet eyeshadows that I've tried. I could easily swipe this on with my fingers in less than a minute, and it would still looks absolutely flawless. Also, this product is comparable to higher end products, but with a very affordable price tag and (dare I say it) better performance. I got so many compliments when I wore this eyeshadow. I think I have 6 of these now. Gold, Taupe, Orange, White, Green, and Pomegranate. I LOVE these. I usually apply them as a base for other colors. I use a brush to lay the product down then blend out with my finger. These last all day, don't crease, and really add to sheer eyeshadow and give added depth to any eyeshadow. It does make a nice base for taupes that I can wear. The green is not what I consider Emerald green, but it really adds depth to my favorite eyeshadow color - green! The gold works really well under natural colors, browns, golds, bronzes. The orange is great for summery yellow/orange/red looks which really compliment blue/green eyes. I love wearing reddish/burgundy colors as well, and find myself grabbing for the pomegranate punk color often. I have not gone for the purple because it is hard to work with, but I may give it a go. I know MUF makes a nice bright purple, and I might just spend the extra money on that one instead. I would love to get the rest of the colors, but they always seem to be out at the store - that tells me just how much people love them. I hope they come out with many more colors - matte and shimmer. Some nude colors, a matte white, maybe different versions of blue and green. These are smooth, creamy, and work well. I would highly recommend these as they are at a good price. Slightly Disappointed, Not What I Expected
So from the commercial I figured that this was going to be a heavily pigmented longwear liner...it's not. It swipes on sheer, then with a little work the color glides on but it's a CREAM that does get a bit cakey.
