Hi I'm Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artisty at MAC Cosmetics.
And to my right is the lovely Genoa Norris, resident trainer from MAC Cosmetics based out of Los Angeles. The Halloween makeup look that we're going to be doing on our lovely model is sort of a masquerade mask without having to carry it around all night.
So to begin your mask the best thing to do is to take a neutral lip pencil and draw dots where you want the parameter of the mask to be, which makes it a little easier to connect the dots once you're ready to start your mask.
So we're starting by connecting the dots with the natural lip liner from dot to dot. The first one starts at the very top of the brow all the way to the temple and from there we take down onto the lower cheek area. So we really start to get a diamond shape. Now we're taking the pencil and we're going with the curvature of the cheek to create a bat wing. So continue to connect the dots, because what we are ultimately trying to create here is a glamorous pair of bat wings. So that will be your basic shape.
So the next step is to actually begin to go with you a darker color. We're using here just a theatrical makeup you can get this at a Halloween supply store or a beauty supply, sort of clown makeup what they would use for stage. Using a very firm brush. Since we've already gotten the basic shape with the natural color. We're just going to go right in with the black cream makeup and begin to outline the mask. So get the border you want with the darker color and begin to fill it in with the darker brush. Over the eyebrows, over the eyes, all the way to the lash line. You're going to want to use the flatter end of your brush to get into those hard to reach places.
So the next step is to go crazy with the glitter. What Genoa is using is turquoise glitter and you can get this at any party supply store, or makeup supply store, or a Halloween store. Just pack it on all over the eye with that firm bristle brush and don't be afraid if it flies all over the place. It might land on the skin that you don't want it to be on but at the end of the makeup application you can take good old scotch tape and just pick it up with the tape.
So now what Genoa is doing is adding a blend of a gold and a teal glitter on the outer portion. So there's a little bit of gradation color going from the saturated turquoise eyelid all the way up to the softer edge of the mask so now you've got the most amazing unbelievable mask. And you can finish it off with a really natural light lip gloss. We're using a color that sort of brings out her natural lip color because again we want the focus to be on the mask. So we're just applying the last touch of gloss. And there you have it. The most incredible Halloween makeup mask that washes off at the end of the night.
