Chatting With Liz and Rachel Edlich of Radical Skincare

Here at Total Beauty, we love a good beauty business success story, especially when that business is a revolutionary skin care line run by two sisters. Recently we had the opportunity to sit down with Liz and Rachel Edlich, co-founders of Radical Skincare. Read on to find out their inspiration, their day-to-day routine, and the most rewarding aspects of running their own brand.

Q: You were greatly influenced by your role model and father, Dr. Richard Edlich MD. Phd., who founded the burn unit at the University of Virginia. How did your childhood pave the way for your future?
LE: Before the age of 10, I worked in my father’s lab at the University of Virginia Hospital and in the burn unit, as did Rachel. Years later, we found ourselves in the cosmetic industry. Having created over 100 products for celebrities and our company, we felt compelled to get back to the lab and create the most powerful skin care products for ourselves. Necessity became the mother of invention.

Q: What were some of the personal catalysts that made you start Radical Skincare?
LE: At the age of 46 when I realized gravity and aging was real, I became passionate about finding a solution. My sister developed rosacea after her second child and was on oral and topical antibiotics and yearning to retrieve the skin that she used to have.

RE: We knew that we had access to the best chemists and scientists in the world. This time it was personal. Money was no issue, because we had no intention of selling it. We just wanted to create the best anti-aging product for ourselves, our mom, and our friends.

Q: What is different about your brand? What sets it apart from the others?
RE: Our TrylacelTM Technology has allowed us to maintain the potency of antioxidants in the cream or serum. Before our Trylacel technology, antioxidants lose their power and have limited efficacy. Trylacel encapsulates three classes of active ingredients -- antioxidants, repairing actives at their highest concentration and soothing agents -- to guarantee the strongest antioxidant protection, optimal anti-aging for even the most sensitive skin.

Q: What is one of the most rewarding aspects of your job?
LE: We get so many emails and letters from people around the world, that for the first time have had the relief of knowing that their skin looks healthy and glowing every day. When you combine that with the inspiration and empowerment that they feel in sharing our Radical Living philosophy, we look back and know that we are making a difference. For us, that is Radical.
