The days of having to check the back of a lipstick for "cruelty-free" or "not tested on animals" will soon be coming to an end -- at least if your lipstick is made in Europe.
WWD reports that a ban on the import and sale of animal-tested cosmetic products in the European Union is expected to go into effect on March 11 of this year. In short, any beauty companies wishing to sell cosmetics or ingredients in the EU -- even toiletries like toothpaste and soap -- must not test them on animals anywhere in the world.
This comes as a huge victory not only to those of us who are fond of our furry friends, but also to Cruelty Free International, a nonprofit organization that has been campaigning for this kind of legislation for over 20 years. Working alongside the organization is long-time supporter The Body Shop, whose international values director Paul McGreevy said, "The future of beauty must be cruelty free." We agree! Here's hoping the rest of the world follows suit.

Outstanding! This might even have an impact on American-based companies hoping to export their products. I never expected this to change on such a large scale.
