New York Fashion Week is starting to wind down, and having gone backstage for more than 30 shows I've seen a lot of makeup -- but, surprisingly, most of it has been on the makeup artists' stations and not on the models' faces. More than one key makeup artist referred to the trend as "no-makeup makeup." Sure, I get it -- who doesn't want a flawless face? But bold looks are half the fun of Fashion Week, so I've been a little underwhelmed by all the neutrals.
Before I even saw the finished look at Nanette Lepore, I heard makeup artist James Kaliardos for MAC describe it as, "if Oscar Wilde had a disco party -- it's dandy meets disco." And I started to get excited for something different. The smudged eggplant and bronze eye didn't disappoint. Kaliardos used dark purple pencil and currant-colored shadow shades (available this fall) and blended for smoky effect. Then, he used shimmery bronze pigment on the inner corners of the eyes to make them pop. He brought shimmer to the rest of the face as well with Center of the Universe blush and sheer lipgloss topped with more shimmer pigment. The result was feminine and pretty -- with a hint of disco. The way Fashion Week should be.

I like the eggplant eyes, but no the swoop of the hair so much.

She looks great! I would go way easier on the bottom lid for me!
