If you're a fan of "So You Think You Can Dance," then you're a fan of Cat Deeley, the show's Emmy-nominated host. She's gorgeous, funny, and incredibly entertaining. I for one watch the show just as much for Deeley's dresses and hairstyles as I do for the contestants' dance moves.
Week after week, Deeley gets all glammed up and stands on the corner of the stage while dancers tumble around on the floor -- not the most natural setting -- but there's something about her that feels so real. So when I got the opportunity to talk to her on the phone, I was determined to figure out how she does it. And I think it comes down to two things: She picks out her own clothes, and she doesn't take herself too seriously.
"When I wake up in the morning, I decide what I'm going to wear," she says. "It's not very complicated at all." No stylist. No wardrobe consultant. Deeley tosses her dress into a garment bag and brings it to the set. Then, the hair and makeup team help pull it all together. "It's only clothes and makeup -- it should be fun!" says Deeley.
She also says that her secret to looking so good on camera has more to do with what she does out of the makeup chair than in it. "Sometimes there's barely any time for hair and makeup -- I have to throw my hair into a ponytail and slap on some red lipstick," she says. "For me, it's all about taking care of myself as much as possible -- eating right, getting my nails done and my hair colored." This way, when she doesn't have time for a full face of foundation or a set of hot rollers, she still looks beautiful.
Want to have your own conversation with the SYTYCD host? Crest 3D White is holding a contest on their Facebook page through March 8. All you have to do is write a story on the importance of a white smile, and Deeley will choose a winner to accompany her to the Young Hollywood Awards. And here's a tip: Be as real as possible. I think Deeley will appreciate it.
